Condenser is a crucial part of the distilling system. In a simple pot still configuration (alembic) the output of the system is directly proportioned to the efficiency of the condenser. A cool running condenser with a large surface area will immediately cool alcohol vapors and will increase the amount of distillate.
In reflux configuration the reflux condenser regulates the strength of alcohol that is produced.
The simplest condenser.
The popularity of a spiral condenser can be attributed to:
- The simplicity of design.
- The wide availability of copper tubing.
- The ease of construction. There is no need for welding, basic soldering will suffice.
